THE MEMORIAL PLAQUES AT KIRKANDREWS KIRK
THE RESTING PLACE OF JAMES BROWN
In the area of garden ground to the left of the steps as you enter Kirkandrews Kirk through the Lychgate lies JAMES BROWN of KNOCKBREX. He is the only person buried in the grounds of Kirkandrews Kirk. There are two plaques on the walls between which he is buried. He was born in 1850 and died on 10th October 1920. He was a partner in the department store Affleck and Brown in Manchester. The store was often referred to as the “Harrods of the North”.
A booklet (James Brown – A Businessman of Many Passions) is available in the Kirk or from our online shop detailing much of his life.
